Intra-University Transfers to the College of Music

Student may transfer into the College of Music from another college on the CU-Boulder campus.

Students interested in transferring to the College of Music or adding music as a second major must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher.  Students must apply and audition to be accepted into the College of Music. For information about applying and auditioning, please click here.

Application deadlines for spring semester admission are:

  • Oct. 1 – Voice and Jazz Guitar (prescreening recordings required)
  • Nov. 1 – all others

Application deadlines for fall semester admission are:

  • Dec. 15 – Voice and Jazz Guitar (prescreening recordings required)
  • April 1 – all other areas

Exceptions to these deadlines may be granted on a case-by-case basis.

NOTE:  Although the application deadline for intrauniversity transfer students is April 1, we strongly recommend that you apply by January 15 so that you may attend one of our Saturday audition dates in February.  Also, most scholarships are awarded to students who audition in February.

Transferring to the College of Music from a college or university outside of CU

The College of Music welcomes applications from students wishing to transfer to CU from a college or university outside of the University of Colorado Boulder.  Transfer applicants must pass an audition and have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.  For information about applying and auditioning, please visit our Application Process page. 

Application deadlines for Spring Semester Admission are:

  • Oct. 1 – Jazz Guitar, Voice, and non-Colorado resident Flute (prescreening required)
  • Nov. 1 – All other areas

If you are receiving a music scholarship from your current institution you must submit a Scholarship Release Form before you may be considered for any music scholarships at CU-Boulder.  Students who audition will automatically be considered for our merit-based music scholarships.

Once you are accepted to CU-Boulder and to the College of Music, the Office of Admissions will evaluate your transfer credit.  Then, the College of Music office will determine how that credit will apply towards your degree.  Please visit the University of Colorado Boulder’s Transfer Credit Guideline page.  Unfortunately, we cannot evaluate your transfer credit until you have been admitted to the program.  However, there is a great online tool you can use to help you understand how your credits might transfer:
