Woodwinds

The Woodwind Program consists of six artists-teachers who represent the performance areas of flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and saxophone. All of the faculty members of the Woodwind Program are active as performers and pedagogues, and are recognized nationally and internationally as leaders in their field. Individually and collectively, they teach, advise and mentor students enrolled in the Woodwind Program.

Woodwind area performance majors elect to receive a weekly one-hour individual lesson. In addition, they perform in studio classes wherein teachers coach them in their performance of solo, chamber, and orchestral repertoire.

There are numerous options for students to participate in ensembles, including the University Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Concert Band, Chamber Orchestra, jazz ensembles, chamber groups and various ethnic ensembles. Frequently, distinguished guest artists present master classes, workshops, and recitals as part of the Woodwind Program.

The College awards scholarships to students based on their achievement, ability, and potential for success. In addition, the College offers teaching assistantships, fellowships, and scholarships to outstanding applicants. The faculty selects qualified graduate students to fill positions in the resident wind quintet, and provides these students with tuition waivers and stipends. Local professional and community organizations, such as the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Colorado Ballet, Boulder Philharmonic, Greeley Symphony, and Longmont Symphony, often provide additional performance opportunities to advanced students.
